Volt Cafe

NYMPHEAS by Volt Cafe

December 30, 2012

I pretty much love everything about these shots photographed by Claire Huish for Volt Cafe. The dark sensuous clothing and lighting produces quite an ethereal and dark image. That Katherine Weir skirt is so mermaid like and hangs so beautifully! I love the use of the black veil as well, it is fairly ominous but works well with the make up and lace/velvet dresses. Note the delicate application of deep lipstick to create a softer look.(Photography: Claire Huish, Make up: Hannah Phillips, Fashion: Olivia Wright)

DANCE WITH ME by Volt Cafe

August 21, 2012

I’m not sure how I came across Volt Cafe a – ‘Art as Fashion, Fashion as Art’ website and magazine house. I found it listed with many other websites that seem to accumulate on my favourites bar, so I thought I would take a look for some inspiration. I found this editorial titled ‘DANCE WITH ME’ – which I think, judging by the photos is not literal dancing! I like the lack of ‘perfection’ here that you would not find in a glossy magazine – there is an originality and edge to the photos that is very intriguing. Each photo is shot differently, while the colours ensure that they all correspond to create the collection. If you look close enough you will see where the clothes are from. Enjoy and let me know your thoughts!
