Nothing New, Only Borrowed

September 16, 2016

Hi all, sorry I have been away for so long, but i have a new project! ‘Nothing New, Only Borrowed’ is my monthly styling project using my own clothes as well as borrowing from friends. One of the great things about being at University is being able to exchange clothes, especially when money is tight. I hope this will offer an insight into our street style, as well as dipping into key trends for the next few months! First up is Project D – D for Dungarees in the beautiful Yorkshire sun that we have been enjoying – let me know what you think!

Does The Dress Fit?

June 4, 2014

zip up

Looking for a new dress can be as easy as ABC or become a nightmare of endless trips between changing rooms and the post office. Don’t get me wrong I love trying on clothes, but when the dress you’re looking for is not quite right then it really takes the enjoyment out of it. While looking for a new dress for an event this weekend I realised that not only was finding the right style and shape a challenge but being in between sizes proves a much harder challenge. You know when you see those girls who look like their dress is just that bit too tight but they have squeezed themselves into it – I feel I have become one of them! Now I know what these girls could be going through – the dreaded saying  ‘I am in between sizes’.

What do you do when you feel slightly too big for one size but definitely too small for the size up? My friend’s response was, either loose weight or go eat some cake! Either of which I don’t actually mind – hence why I am probably in this scenario. It is even worse when your size varies from shop to shop. There is one solution, which all retailers and suppliers would firmly reject – tolerances may vary within sizes. Have you ever tried on 3 different dresses but each the same style and size? Your answer is probably no, because why would you think to do that. Interestingly you can try on 3 X smalls and one may be just that bit tighter or looser than the other. Blame it on the person who stretched it before you did, or poor craftsmanship, but either way you get the perfect dress. I will be on the hunt for my perfect version of  a ZARA dress this Friday – wish me luck!

Burberry Prorsum

October 29, 2013

Burberry Prorsum

Leopard print is one of those trends that comes around year after year, but still every time I feel it is a struggle to move away from leopard print’s un-classy stigma. However this season Burberry Prorsum led the way with a leopard print revival! I think this is the most gorgeous and flattering look I have seen so far. Wearing an animal print skirt is just as, if not more, daring as wearing a leopard print coat so keep all other parts of the outfit simple and plain. I have even chosen accessories plainer than those shown above! I would highly recommend the Asos belt, definitely an investment piece as it is easily adjustable and works wonders with everything.

Michael Kors

August 27, 2013

Michael Kors

It is offically the end of summer, so this is probably my last post for S/S looks. I don’t know about you but I personally cannot wait to bring out my winter wardrobe again! We are in the mid season phase where it is too hot for trousers and boots but too cold for shorts and sandals, so I thought this Michael Kors look was the perfect mixture of the two. It’s suitable for any summer rain showers or cold winds but still has that summery feel to it. You just cannot go wrong in stripes at this time of year!

Peter Som

Peter Som

Pink trousers anyone? I love this look by Peter Som and I love the pink Mango trousers I found just as much! I do not wear any pink but this subtle and romantic shade has changed my mind – it’s not too extravagant or outlandish like many summer brights.

Temperley

March 13, 2013

Temperley S/S 2013

This Temperley collection represented everything I love about summer fashion, the floaty, sheer and delicate fabrics, the feminine shapes and the romantic prints just make me swoon. I just loved the ‘sailor’ feel to this jumpsuit with the white horizontal stripe in contrast with the prim and highly sophisticated black hat. Eye catching to say the least! The jumpsuit I found from Nordstrom comes with a belt, but I would avoid any other accessories with this look; let the hat and all in one do the talking.

Jill Stuart

December 9, 2012

I love the simplistic style here! I don’t think I have featured Jill Stuart before so it is nice to look at different designers who do that simple elegance so well! Nothing is overly embellished or accessorized in this look, so that is just how I would wear it with the options above. The ankle strap looks fine with this look as well because of the trousers falling round the ankle!

Fendi

October 23, 2012

Such a cool futuristic look by Fendi and with an unusual hairstyle. I love the idea of cuddling up in a big winter coat with a shift dress and tights underneath, it just seems so cosy and stylish at the same time. While the Zara coat I chose isn’t very futuristic it will certainly keep you warm! I had never considered red boots before either – the Topshop ones are nice I think, because they are not too bright. What is more, I may have found another bag option! Don’t you just love this tote by Accessorize?
